What Type Of Traveller Are You? 7 Main Types Of Travellers

DISCLAIMER: This post contains affiliate links Over my last few years globetrotting serially, I’ve seen a lot of travellers explore the world in a variety of ways and taking part in activities I wouldn’t have contemplated. It’s opened my mind to the possibilities that exist when it comes to doing leisure activities. This very fact I realised even more a few weeks ago whilst accommodation hunting for future trips on Booking.com.

The way we go about travelling depends on each individual, their lifestyle and reasons behind on embarking on the travel adventure in the first place. Some travellers prefer to visit cities over more rural areas. Others may spend more than other travellers. Some prefer the company of others whilst others opt for enjoying alone time. Travel traits and habits are adopted based on who we are and our circumstances. So I thought it would be cool and fascinating to pinpoint the common forms of travel and profile them to the best of my knowledge:

Backpacker

If you come across a person travelling around one or more countries for a period of weeks of then you’ve found yourself a bacpacker. Backpackers are your uultimate minimalists when it comes to luggage, clothing and budget. They really push the boundaries of efficiency and silhouette to the fullest. It’s entirely possible that they are nomads. By nomads I mean they’re always seem to be on the move and don’t have a permanent home. Cultural and outdoor experiences are a must for backpackers. They are eager to blend into their environment and live like one of the locals. Backpackers enjoy making interpersonal and meaningful bonds with people that they’ll remain with them for a lifetime.

Solo Traveller

The best one. No one dispute this in the comments please. (being biased obviously 😝) Solo travellers are a self-explanatory kind. They travels by themselves more often than not. End of discussion. Nah I’m kidding of course. Some traits ofthose who solo travel include being open to meeting new people, enjoying their own company and tasting more freedom from their usual routine. They may have friends they’re visiting and will turn to their smart devices and guides more often than not. Travelling alone can be very good for a person’s growth. You end up having to figure things out yourself, apply yourself in ways you didn’t have to before and learn about your capabilities. Basically I’ve just described myself in a few paras! Solo travel squad where you lot at?

City Tripper

Hop abroad mainly for city breaks for a day or two in the week or for a whole weekend. Their travel partners typically are their romantic partners or one or two of their closest friends . I call them – city trippers. Generally more invested doing touristy activities, namely museum and art gallery visits, walking tours, window shopping in the town squares. City trippers may tap into their spontaneous sdd and get lost wandering around from time to time. Only to find their bearings eventually. Favourite destinations for city trippers: New York City, Prague, Amsterdam, Paris, Venice and London (if you’re from out of London and/or the UK)

Luxury Traveller

Your most bougie kind of person when it comes to travelling. Behold peeps – the luxury traveller. Luxury travellers crave staying in all-inclusive hotels and resorts. Access to leisure facilities like gyms, saunas, swimming pool and room services. You’ll catch them mainlydoing swimming sessions in a pool, hottub/jacuzzi baths, chilling at the beach, dining at 4/5* star Michelin restaurants or sky bars. The more thrill-seeking individuals will have outdoor/ adventurous experiences on their itinerary like jetskiing, power, camel and safari rides. Also they shop till their drop st the biggest most metropolitan shopping malls man has made around them. Making their socials look as lit is imperative so they’ll hit up the most instagramamable locations in the destination. The local experience may not be priority. It’s virtually the stuff of dreams for us travel content creators. When you’re invited onto a press trip and all of the above is included then can we make a claim to have had made it in the industry.

Business Traveller

Let’s get to business and talk about the business traveller. Whether they are entrepreneurs, financial consultants, business owners, or expats they are travelling for mainly business purposes and to further their professional life. Ambitious, career-driven and pragmatic they are looking for professional and industrial connections to progress their career or expand their business domestically or internationally depending on where they went. The typical business traveller may prefer to fly first-class/business class if financially secure or if on a budget then won’t be unhappy to arm wrestle in economy class. Destinatiois are likely to be big cities and capitals (a la Dubai) where all the money is at. Generally speaking, they understand how money works, understand how to make it work for them (specifically when it comes earning via travelling) and are on the path to financial freedom. Can I have an amen guys!

Budget Traveller

We’ve gone from the backpacker, the solo globetrotter to the luxury and business-minded travel goer. Now we’ve arrived at the budget traveller (pun unintended). Travellers who are on a budget may share similar minimalistic habits to backpackers. Opting for hostels/B&B instead of luxury hotels. Flying into their destination in economy class rather moving bougie in a first/business class seat. Budget travellers will almost certainly always be looking for a bargain wherever they go at anytime. Knowing they’re financially conscious of their money, they’ll plan everything on their itinerary to the finest detail. Activities that are free or on the cheap will likely be the way forward. For example free walking tours, free entry to national galleries and museums and visiting outdoor landmarks and attractions.

Group Traveller

Last but not least we have the group traveller. Again it’s self-explanatory. This kind of traveller prefers going on trips/vacations with family, friends or maybe fellow travellers. They’re down for creating interpersonal and unforgettable memories that will improve existing relationships. Group travellers are likely to be more dependent on their travel partners to get around. You’ll catch them attending a music festival/concert or exploring the nightlife. It may be another reason as to why they’ve gone away in the first place.

Not everyone has to fit into a particular box per say. Many travellers probably have traits from more than one travelling category. Like you may be an expat who prefers to fly solo and economy class. You also may see yourself as more than one type of traveller – bougie on a budget and that! The beautiful thing about this is how much travelling can unite different kinds of people. Travelling for the betterment of ourselves is the one common ground shared. That’s the biggest thing to take. Along with it being fun and games seeing the type of travellers that’s out there.
